The Dansko ’Monika’ is Dansko’s best-selling sandal. The footbed of the ’Monika’ sandal fully supports the length of the foot and leather straps protect the instep more so than other typical slip-ons, ensuring a good grip on the foot.

However there is a hope if you loved this infamously popular shoe. Sanita still produces the "Monica" sandal, based on the original platform. You'll find it linked near the bottom left of this page under similar products. For those of you that do not know the history or the correlation between Dansko and Sanita we'll take this opportunity to enlighten you a little. Up until the Fall 2008 season almost all "stapled" products by Dansko were manufactured by the Sanita company and stamped with a Dansko label. Sanita and Dansko had a manufacturer, distributor, and buyer relationship which fell apart. Patent and distribution rights issues severed that relationship. Sanita had decided to produce and market to the masses in the United States therefore creating a conflict to the Dansko relationship. Anyway, we're not here to say who's right and who's wrong. We're here to bring you the highest quality footwear we can get our hands on. Essentially, some buyers looking for what is an "original" dansko stapled bottom have gone to the Sanita platform. Dansko chose to manufacture a portion of their products in China and Sanita has stated that this will never occur on their watch so to speak. I guess the lines have been drawn. We should note here that we've not noticed any marked decline in the quality of Dansko since the move to China and we continue to stand behind Dansko, the quality they build, and what the company stand for. We've just noticed a call from the clogging community that they want what they've always known, in some cases this being Sanita.

The Stapled Clog Collection by Dansko proudly carries the Seal of Acceptance from the American Podiatric Medical Association. The Stapled clog outsoles are designed to be suitable in everyday work where there are excesses of vegetable oils and animal fats. Slip resistance tests have been conducted by STARA, the world's leading research and technology organization for the shoe industry.
The Stapled Clog outsoles were tested for slip resistance against the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) F1677-96 standard using the Mark II machine. The shoes were tested on dry, wet, oily, and oily-wet surface conditions using red quarry tile.
